DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION CENTRE DEC ENUGU DURING THIS 2026 INTENATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT THEIR RIGHTS IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH SUSTAINED INTERACTION AND SPEAKNG OUT AND ENGAGING THE OPINION LEADERS AND GOVERNANCE INSTITUTIONS

The 2026 International Women’s Day celebration for Development Education Centre DEC Enugu a period of engagement, consultation, advocacy visits to community leaders, educating the women on the laws and sensitization of women on the application of best practices in fighting for their rights in the communities and the society in general
In Africa and especially in Nigeria and other black nations of the world women face challenges ranging from denial of education, commerce, position in governance, inheritance, and in decision making in matters that affect them.
These challenges are as a result of the cultural practices that has been maintained for decades and propagated by men based on the fact that they (men) have been controlling the economy, politic, education, religion, social and governance of the communities over the years.
The worse part of this is that the more educated persons in the society are the chieftain of this inhuman treatment to women and girls in the communities. They in many occasions deliberate and come up with policies that must be obeyed by the women even when these policies were detrimental to the life of the women who are always at the receiving end of the policies.

Development Education Centre (DEC) Enugu in her workover the years in the communities of the south east and north central Nigeria discovered that though that women are the affected by these inhuman cultural and traditional practices, the actual force for the implementation of these policies and practices are the men.
Therefore, the theme of this year International Women’s Day celebration which is ‘’GIVE AND GAIN’’ calls for a deep reflection on how we have lived our lives for the benefit of the others. DEC Enugu during this year’s celebration, engaged the community leaders, the community development association leaders, the religious leaders and the government agencies to ensure that women especially the poor and the widow who are denied of their inheritance are given justice.
This year’s International Women’s Day celebration organized by DEC Enugu took place in the communities Edemani Ogwugwu Eze Ancient kingdom and Idah LGA for communities in Idah, Ogbogbo, Oforachi in Enugu and Kogi states that partner with DEC Enugu in her women rights’ education and empowerment programme in the South East and North Central Nigeria.
In attendance were community leaders, policy makers, religious leaders and women leaders whose contributions were highly acknowledged to bring about positive changes in these communities and the women and girls in particular.

The climax of the 2026 international women day celebration was the education and sensitization of women on their rights, what the law says, and how women through the facilitation of DEC Enugu will change the policies in the communities and speaking out by women on the issues of inheritance right and why it is importance for one to write his/her will to avoid un-necessary litigation
